Free Health Check Up to Combat Cervical Cancer

On the 17th of May, 2024 a free health checkup program was held at the office of the Wide-Angle Social Development Organisation under the guidance of Dr James. The program was done in collaboration with Target and Intervention Project and CRY (Child Rights & You). The program gave free health check of cervical cancer to the patients of HIV women. The objective of the program was aimed in raising awareness and educating women about the importance of regular cervical cancer screenings. With respect to the program, Imo Singh, Coordinator, Karkinos Department, delivered an enlightening talk on the critical need for regular cervical cancer check-ups. He emphasized that routine screenings, such as HPV tests, are essential for early detection, which can significantly reduce the risk of cervical cancer progressing to an advanced stage. Moreover, Dr. James, Gynae Specialist provided a comprehensive overview of the risks and preventive measures related to cervical cancer. He alerted the attendees to the fact that cervical cancer is among the most common cancers affecting women, discussing various risk factors such as HPV infection, smoking, and weakened immune systems, prioritizing on STD Dr. James stressed the importance of regular screenings, advocating for early detection as a crucial element in effective treatment and prevention. He also discussed the HPV vaccination, highlighting its role in significantly reducing the risk of cervical cancer.
