“One Day Advocacy Meeting on the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020”

One Day Advocacy Meeting on the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020” was held on Monday, the 12nd of August, 2024 at the Conference Hall of Wide Angle.  The meeting was organised by Wide Angle in collaboration with CRY (Child Rights &You) and was attended by various stakeholders which included members from Child Welfare Committee (CWC), NGOs, Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), District Child Protection Units (DCPU), Special Juvenile Police Units (SJPU) members. Montu Ahanthem, Secretary of Wide Angle and former member of Manipur Commission for Protection Child Rights gave the key note address in which he highlighted that the drafting of the policy started way aback in 2016 based on a three-tiered protective framework for children which is (1) Ameliorative and restorative measures (2) strengthening and building convergence for systems and services and (3) promoting mental health and psychosocial recovery. The aims & objective of today’s program is to discuss and share opinions on the immediate implementation of the Manipur State Policy for Children 2020 which was Gazette Notified for public opinion on the 12th Nov. 2020 and since then it has been pending for Cabinet cleara    nce. Keisham Pradipkumar, Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection Child Rights chaired the function as the chief guest. He highlighted that the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has submitted a memorandum to the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur on 25th July 2024, appealing for the enactment of the Manipur State Policy for Children 2020 as the enactment remains pending without a Cabinet decision, S. Sharat Kumar Sharma, advisor of Wide Angle and former Chairperson of Manipur Commission for Protection Child Rights chaired the function as the president. Thiyam Rajkeshor, Advocate – High Court of Manipur and Former Chairperson of CWC, Imphal West presented an analytical view and urgent need for the Manipur State Policy for Children, 2020. Jenita Rajkumari, project coordinator of CRY (Child Rights and You) welcomed all the participants and seek the valuable inputs from the concerned stakeholders who participated in the program to drive the policy towards successful enactment.
